10 Days - 10 Tasks: The Ultimate Countdown to Homecoming
10 Days - 10 Tasks: The Ultimate Countdown to Homecoming
Homecoming season is here, and the countdown is officially on! With just 10 days to go, it’s time to shift from excitement to action. Whether you’re in Indiana, Kentucky or anywhere else, these next few days are all about planning, preparing, and making sure you’re ready to enjoy every minute of Homecoming week. Here’s your 10-step guide to crushing the countdown!
1. Grab Your Tickets & Lock in “The Plans”
Don’t wait until the last minute to buy your Homecoming tickets—lines get long, and some schools even sell out. Confirm which events you’re attending (the dance, football game, pep rally) and make sure you know who you’re going with. If you’re going with a date or a group, finalize those details now.
2. Double-Check the Dress Code & Set a Budget
Is your Homecoming semi-formal or more casual? Do the students make fun shirts? Is the dance right after the Big Football Game or the next night? Every school has its own rules, so make sure your outfit follows the guidelines. Once you know what’s expected, set a budget that covers tickets, clothes, shoes, accessories, hair, and any extras you may want for the night! Also, double check if handbags have to be a certain size - you never know!
3. Lock in the Perfect Outfit
Now’s the time to make sure your look is ready!!! Try on your outfit, test your shoes for comfort, and decide on jewelry or accessories. If you’re ordering online or need tailoring, 10 days gives you just enough wiggle room to fix anything that’s not quite right for the night!
4. Coordinate With Friends or Your Date
Homecoming is way more fun when everyone’s on the same page. If you’re going as a couple, decide on matching or complementary colors. If you’re going with friends, talk about group photo plans or getting ready together before the dance.
5. Figure Out Rides & Curfew
Transportation matters! Lets not assume a certain person is driving - lets make sure we get those plans in stone! Decide who’s driving, who’s riding together, and what time everyone’s leaving and heading home. Don’t forget to check in with parents about curfew so there are no surprises later. Do not forget - send your parents a “leave now” text so that they know you are heading home before that clock chimes curfew time!

6. Brush Up on Traditions & Etiquette
Homecoming isn’t just the dance—it’s the whole week. From pep rallies to the big game, know your school’s traditions so you can take part. And if you’re being asked to Homecoming or asking someone yourself, remember a little etiquette goes a long way: be thoughtful, respectful, and clear.
7. Think Before You Post
Everyone wants to capture the moment, but not every photo needs to go online. Be smart about what you post on social media. Make sure it shows off the fun without embarrassing anyone—you’ll thank yourself later. If you are not sure - ASK!!! Bestie or Not - be respectful of everyone’s online preferences!
8. Get Your Spirit Week Outfits Ready
If your school has theme days leading up to the big night, start planning now! Those were my favorite when I was in high school - especially making outfits with my friends! Whether it’s pajama day, class color day, or “throwback Thursday,” make sure you have the right clothes and props ready to show your school pride.
9. Stay Organized & On Top of Deadlines
Between practices, games, homework, and planning for Homecoming, it’s easy to lose track of details. Use your phone reminders or a simple checklist so you don’t forget things like ticket pickup, group photos, or salon appointments. Also - DO NOT forget that you have all your regularly scheduled homework!! Make sure if you are also working on a group project or have a deadline and others are depending on you this week - keep your word to them! It is important!
10. Plan Fun Pre-Hoco Moments
The night doesn’t start at the dance—it starts with the little traditions you make beforehand. Whether it’s taking group photos at the park, grabbing dinner with friends, or just hanging out while you get ready, these moments will end up being some of your favorite memories.
Final Thoughts
With just 10 days left, the countdown to Homecoming is about more than just the dance—it’s about celebrating your school, your friends, and making memories that will last way past high school. So get organized, plan ahead, and most importantly, have fun!
